Gabby Sanderson
I’m with the band
Original, eclectic and cool as hell, introducing Gabby Sanderson mistress of the decks. Guilty as charged for mixing rock and roll classics, classic disco, electro beats, old school rap, funk, soul, hip-hop, pop from all the ages and festival indie anthems, she’ll moisten you musical palette till you’re left salivating all over the dancefloor.
Rather than keep to the same old set, like many a DJ does, you’ll never hear her play the same way twice; preferring to mash it right up, throwing in random forgotten gems, maintaining inventive, edgy and seductive mixes with a spine tingling thrill from her unexpected twists. To put it another way, Gabby does not consider herself a DJ of a specific genre, she’ll happily play to any given brief. This saw Gabby DJ at the Olympics as the only female British anchor presenter for the International Radio Festival, mixing live to an estimated 11+ million listeners. For the same company Gabby also DJed and hosted the International Radio Festival itself in Zurich in Schlos Sielberg, one of the oldest castles in Switzerland. Company magazine wrote an article on Gabby declaring she has the ‘decks factor’.
Currently Gabby has a residency with the UK’s biggest indie night Propaganda which sees her tour the UK at the weekends playing to 1,000 to 3,000 capacity venues where not only does she mix the music, she also mixes the music videos on giant projectors to accompany the tracks. Gabby also DJ’s for private parties and branded events, she does this regularly for mac make-up, Ibiza Rocks and Religion, playing for all in Selfridges stores across the UK.
Last summer Gabby often played to a celebrity audience securing the position of resident DJ and host in Ibiza for the artist’s private aftershows at the Ibiza Rocks House (formally the infamous Pikes hotel where Wham shot their Club Tropicana video and Freddie Mercury held his weeklong 41st birthday party). Seen dancing the night away to Gabby’s sets included Kylie Minogue, Billie Piper, Mark Ronson, Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal, Plan B and many, many more.
Having worked and toured with bands over the past decade; and been a regular performer on the festival circuit (and for Ibiza Rocks since it began) Gabby’s a well respected artist with a vast music knowledge, and credits Soulwax/2 Many DJ’s and the Mystery Jets as her mentors.
Gabby started her DJ career seven years ago as one part of electro duo Blonde Ambition with London residencies including 93 Feat East (Shoreditch), Barfly, The Lock Tavern and Proud Galleries (Camden), Tooting Tram and Social (Tooting) and the Garage (Highbury and Islington), Blonde Ambition had guest slots at London Fashion Week parties, a Skins / NME warehouse rave, nights for Disorder Magazine, River Island Rocks, Warner Music, Island Records, Lost and Found, The Egg and in the Gaymer’s tents at most of the major UK festivals.
Three years ago Gabby headed back to her second home, Ibiza, to take up a residency for Ibiza Rocks and explode onto the island. During this time she also DJed and presented Ibiza Rocks the Radio broadcast to over 100,000 listeners via Ibiza Global Radio with Jillian Canney who along with many bands who performed at Ibiza Rocks, joined Gabby on the decks frequently. As well as DJing for Ibiza Rocks in various venues, Gabby also DJed in a collection of bars in Ibiza Town and at Privilege, the world’s largest nightclub.
A TV and Radio broadcaster, Gabby’s presenting credits include Grassroots Gigs (Channel 4), Indie Music TV around the Globe (Sky), a Rhianna Documentary (worldwide dvd release), It’s not Funny (BBC), The Ultimate Festival Show (www.tufs.co.uk), The Rocks and Roll Show (City Channel), I’m With the Band and Ibiza Rocks Web TV. She currently presents The Xclusive on RTE’s 2XM and writes a two pager for Ireland’s leading music magazine, Hotpress, called ‘I’m with the Band’.
Gabby’s other DJ credits include Berlin’s legendary rock and roll venue White Trash, she was the headline DJ for the Mystery Jets Roundhouse aftershow party, and compèred and DJed Jar Music’s International Breakout Festival competition. Gabby also hit the Dublin music scene spinning for Joe Burger, POD and the Workman’s.
